Welcome to the Good Food Ireland Cookery Schools
Learning to cook is like so many things a combination of knowledge and confidence but it is confidence particularly that many lack. In the old days much of this was picked up 'at mother's apron strings'. How oldfashioned that sounds.

Today we experience nothing of the sort and to fill that void the cookery school has emerged. When much of our life seems so fast and furious it is comforting, reassuring to spend time over food. The following pages feature the best schools in the country where you can spend as little as few hours or in some cases many months.

The more advanced, like Ballymaloe have integrated their courses right back to the farm. In some instances you can meet the hen that produced the egg you are holding. In others you are given an opportunity to go and literally fish for your supper.

What they all share is a belief in putting food where it rightly belongs, at the centre of our lives. Obtaining the skill requires time, but there are gifted cooks and teachers up and down the country running classes expertly tuned to providing just that. Go on, grab a wooden spoon. You deserve it.
